Security Boss vs Hale Pet Door

Security Boss vs Hale Pet Door: A Side-by-Side Comparison

Security Boss and Hale both make premium, aluminum-framed pet doors in the USA, and both are a big step up from plastic-framed doors. They differ in flap design, the largest sizes, how you can install them and how long the warranty runs. This page compares them using each brand's published specs (checked November 2026), so you can pick the one that fits your home and your dog.

Full disclosure: Puppy Fever Pro is a Security Boss dealer. We don't sell Hale. Where Hale comes out ahead, we say so.

Durability and build

Both brands use aluminum frames instead of plastic, which is the main reason they last longer than budget pet doors. Hale uses extruded aluminum in 4 colors and lets you mix interior and exterior colors. Security Boss's MaxSeal PRO uses a high-grade aluminum frame in several colors, and every part, from flaps to frames, can be replaced. For dogs that chew, Security Boss makes the SB72, with a flap clad in aluminum on both sides and edged in aluminum channel so there's no soft edge to bite.

Weather sealing

Hale uses flexible vinyl flaps with adjustable magnetic closure strips and pile weatherstripping, and recommends its double flap for colder weather. Security Boss's MaxSeal PRO uses an insulated flap system built for rain, wind and temperature swings, and the SB72W uses an aluminum-clad polycarbonate air-cell flap that Security Boss builds for climates below -40°F. If you live somewhere very cold or windy, Security Boss's insulated flaps are the stronger choice.

Security

Both brands close the opening with a rigid locking cover. Hale's slides into the frame and locks. Security Boss's MaxSeal PRO has a heavy-duty locking cover, the SB72 has a locking security panel that loads from the top, left or right, and the Standard door and wall models use a 1/4" HDPE locking panel. Security Boss's patio and window inserts also lock from inside with thumbscrews and include a brace bar to hold the slider shut.

Sizes

Hale's door model comes in 10 standard sizes, from 6.5" x 9.5" up to Giant at 15.5" x 27.5". Security Boss's MaxSeal PRO and MaxSeal In-Glass come in 10 sizes from 6" x 7.5" up to Behemoth at 15.75" x 32". For tall breeds like Great Danes and Mastiffs, that extra 4.5" of height matters, so Security Boss has the edge for giant dogs.

Installation options

Hale's published line covers door, wall, screen, in-glass and kennel models. Security Boss covers the same spots and adds no-cut options: patio inserts that stand in a sliding glass door track and a sliding window insert, which suit renters or anyone who doesn't want to cut a door, wall or glass. Security Boss also makes guillotine kennel doors and an interior pass-thru.

Warranty

This is where Hale leads. Hale offers a lifetime frame warranty and a 10-year prorated flap warranty. Security Boss pet doors, screen doors and patio inserts carry a 6-year prorated limited warranty on parts and components, and flaps are treated as wear parts. Details are on our warranty page.

Build time and price

Hale lists 3 to 5 business days to build door and wall models. Security Boss builds each door by hand and production can take up to 2 weeks. Both brands price by size and flap count, and both sit in the premium range, so compare the exact size you need. You can see current Security Boss prices on our Security Boss dog doors page.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose Security Boss if you need a no-cut patio or window insert, a door taller than 27.5", a bite-resistant flap, or the best insulation for very cold or windy weather.
