Dog Treadmills

Dog treadmills built for dogs, not people: Maximum Canine treadmills with long running surfaces, side rails, adjustable speed and incline, and an emergency stop. They give high-energy, working and overweight dogs consistent exercise in any weather. Our dog treadmills run about $2,800 to $3,300.

Choose by your dog's size and how you'll use it: walking and weight loss, daily conditioning for working dogs, or rehab. A dog treadmill has a longer, narrower belt than a human treadmill, with side panels that keep your dog centered. Not sure which fits your dog? Text a pro at 737-215-3211.

How to choose a dog treadmill

1. Running surface length

Your dog needs room to reach a full stride without stepping off the back. Long-bodied and large breeds need a longer belt than small dogs, and dogs that will run rather than walk need more length again. The Maximum Canine Dog Runner has a running surface of about 71 by 18 inches.

2. Weight capacity and motor

Check the maximum dog weight and choose a motor that holds speed under load. The Maximum Canine Dog Runner is rated for dogs up to about 330 pounds with a 6.5 HP motor.

3. Speed, incline and safety

Adjustable speed lets you walk a senior dog slowly or condition an athlete; incline builds strength without high speed. Look for side rails or panels, a low step-up and an emergency stop.

4. Introduce the treadmill slowly

Let your dog sniff the treadmill while it's off, then start at the slowest speed for a minute or two with plenty of praise and treats. Always supervise, never tie your dog to the treadmill, and build time gradually. Ask your vet before starting an exercise program for a senior dog or a dog with a health condition.

Dog Treadmills FAQs

Can my dog use a human treadmill?

It's not recommended. Human treadmills have short belts for a dog's longer stride, no side rails to keep a dog centered, and controls placed for people. A dog treadmill is built for a dog's gait and safety.

What size treadmill does my dog need?

Choose a running surface long enough for your dog's full stride and a weight rating above your dog's weight. Large breeds and dogs that will run need the longest belts. Text a pro at 737-215-3211 with your dog's breed and weight.

How long should my dog be on a treadmill?

Start with a few minutes at a slow walk and build up gradually over days and weeks. Watch your dog's breathing and energy, and ask your vet for a plan for seniors, puppies or dogs with health issues.

How do I train my dog to use a treadmill?

Introduce it while it's off, reward your dog for standing on it, then start at the lowest speed for short sessions. Stay beside your dog, keep sessions positive, and never tie your dog to the machine.

Are dog treadmills good for weight loss?

Yes, combined with diet changes. A treadmill gives consistent daily exercise in any weather, which makes it easier to keep a weight-loss plan on track.
